Project 1882 has come together with several other animal rights and animal welfare organisations to demand increased protection for farmed salmon in Scotland. A letter has now been sent to those responsible in The Scottish Government.
The Scottish Government has recently set out a vision for its agriculture, including fish farming for meat. However, Project 1882 and other animal rights and animal welfare organisations mean that this vision does not include an improvement in welfare when it comes to fish. In a letter sent to responsible politicians, it is stated that they must address the major welfare problems that come with fish farming.
– It’s a pressing matter that the suffering is taken seriously to avoid stress and injuries for the fish, both in Scotland and in Sweden. It goes without saying, Project 1882 does what we can to prevent animal suffering, regardless of geographical location, says Benny Andersson, CEO of Project 1882.
Scotland holds one of the world's largest salmon industries, and exports their products around the globe. Approximately 40 million individuals are bred in the country annually and previous scandalous films show great suffering for the fish. The fish farming industries are failing to ensure the welfare of salmon and therefore we are now demanding greater consideration, not only to avoid suffering but also to promote the importance of welfare for fish.
Project 1882 works for a world where every life matters. By supporting our work, you help make that vision become a reality.
