Together with animal rights organizations around the world, Project 1882 is calling on CJ Group, one of South Korea’s largest food and beverage companies, to adopt and publish a global cage-free egg policy.
CJ Group, whose brands include CJ Foodville, bibigo, and TOUS les JOURs, has built a strong reputation for innovation and international growth. However, the company still lacks a clear, group-wide standard for cage-free eggs in its supply chain.
The company is estimated to use around 600 million eggs each year, from approximately 2 million hens. Without a cage-free commitment, many of these animals are kept in cages that severely limit their movement and natural behaviors.
Momentum for cage-free systems is growing across Asia. Governments, companies, and consumers are placing greater focus on food safety, transparency, and responsible sourcing.
− A world without cages is not only possible, it is already within reach. Companies around the world are showing that change is both achievable and necessary, says Coral Ricote Lajusticia, Director of Campaigns at Project 1882.
More than 2,500 companies worldwide have already committed to phasing out cages in their egg supply chains. Global food brands such as Campbell’s and Panera show that moving to cage-free systems is both possible and increasingly expected.
Project 1882 and other animal rights organizations are calling on CJ Group to adopt a global cage-free egg policy. Such a commitment would help save millions of hens from life in cages and bring the company in line with evolving global standards.
