In Ukraine, animal rights issues have been a low priority for a long time, even before the war started. Here you can find the latest news about our work in Ukraine.
A major step forward for hens in Ukraine: McDonald’s Ukraine has announced that it is now 100% cage-free following discussions with Project 1882. The commitment means that all eggs used across McDonald’s more than 120 restaurants in Ukraine now come from cage-free systems instead of hens confined in cages. It is a significant milestone in a country where around 98% of the egg-laying hens are still kept in cages.
In a letter signed by Project 1882 and twelve other European animal organisations, Ukraine is urged to introduce a ban on keeping hens in cages.
Project 1882 is proud to announce a significant step forward in wildlife protection in Ukraine. Thanks to consultations and cooperation with Project 1882 Ukraine, OLX, one of Ukraine’s largest online platforms for private ads, has announced a ban on publishing ads for the sale of exotic animals.

Since 2023, Project 1882 has been active in the country, aiming to work on both short-term efforts, such as providing disaster relief and support to Ukrainian volunteer groups helping animals directly affected by the war, as well as long-term initiatives to make a real difference for the animals that are the most exploited and suffer the worst.
