Danish centre party wants to ban turbochickens
Denmark’s centrist party Moderaterne has called for a national ban on turbochickens. Project 1882 welcomes the announcement, which means that a political majority in favour of phasing out fast-growing breeds is beginning to emerge in Denmark.
“The emergence of a political majority to phase out turbochickens in Denmark shows that it is becoming increasingly difficult for political parties to ignore the suffering caused by the chicken industry", says Benny Andersson, CEO of Project 1882.
In recent years, several European countries and a growing number of major food companies have taken steps to reduce their use of turbochickens. The Danish party Moderaterne now wants to introduce a national ban on breeding and raising turbochickens. Similar proposals are supported by several other parties in the Danish Parliament.
“More and more people are recognising that today’s extreme breeding of chickens causes significant suffering. Denmark is showing that political action is a way forward, and other countries should follow suit”, says Benny Andersson.
The proposal from Denmark is the latest sign of a growing political opposition to turbochickens. Project 1882 is calling on governments across the EU to introduce measures that end the use of turbochickens and promote higher animal welfare standards.
