Fur-Free Friday – A day to stand up for animals killed for their fur

Today, November 29, marks Fur-Free Friday, a significant day dedicated to raising awareness about the immense suffering of animals used for fur. This day serves as a reminder of the cruel conditions in the fur industry and calls on all of us to reconsider our choices when it comes to fur products.

Each year, approximately 21 million animals – primarily mink, foxes, and raccoon dogs – are killed for their fur. These animals are kept in small, cramped cages with no opportunity to engage in their natural behaviors and are killed solely because people want to wear their fur.

For over 50 years, Project 1882 has been fighting to shut down fur farms. Through advocacy work, we have succeeded in getting companies like Max Mara to say no to fur and have pressured the EU and Swedish policymakers. This has, among other things, led the Swedish government to allocate decomission funding that is expected to signal the end of the fur industry in the country.

– The Fur-Free Friday reminds us that our consumer choices matter. By choosing not to support the fur industry and standing up for animal rights, we can all play a part in stopping this cruel industry. Together, we can contribute to a more compassionate world where animals are not exploited for their fur, says Benny Andersson, CEO of Project 1882.
