Sweden to ban fur farming – “At last!”
The Swedish inquiry on fur farming was published today, and it contains a clear proposal on how a ban should be introduced in Sweden. Project 1882 welcomes this development and urges the government to bring forward the legislation without delay.
Large turnout at the protest in Brussels for an EU ban on fur farming
The European Commission appears to be leaning towards stricter regulations rather than an all-out ban on fur farms. A protest was therefore held in Brussels to remind the Commission that a ban is the only right way forward.
A good week for a Fur Free Europe
This week, Europe’s largest fur producer Poland banned fur farming. For the first time ever, Fur Free Friday took place in a Sweden free from fur farms, and an EU-wide ban on fur farming was debated in the European Parliament. A Fur Free Europe is getting closer.

For decades, millions of minks, foxes, and chinchillas were forced to live in small, confined cages and killed for their fur – all for fashion and status. Through relentless information campaigns and advocacy, Project 1882 shifted public opinion – and transformed the fur industry forever.
This is what Project 1882 does to dismantle fur farms
- By informing the public about the situation of animals. For example, through campaigns that also aim to introduce a ban on fur farming. Most recently with the European citizens' initiative Fur Free Europe.
- Putting pressure on politicians and authorities to change the laws that affect animals in the fur industry, at EU level. The fur farms must be phased out as soon as possible.
- By being part of the international cooperation Fur Free Alliance (FFA) together with over 50 animal rights and animal welfare organizations. Together we are working for a fur-free world.
- Influencing companies to adopt fur-free policies, which are compiled in the list called Fur Free Retailer organised by FFA worldwide.
