Investigation into Frankenchickens sparks public debate in Finland

The article, published by Finland's largest daily newspaper, has sparked widespread discussion. Many readers expressed shock at the conditions shown in the footage, while others questioned whether production systems that cause such suffering should continue.

The investigation has since generated wider national attention, including an extended discussion about Frankenchickens on Yle Arena, Finland's largest and most influential news media platform, which reaches up to 700,000 people each day.

"When people see the reality faced by Frankenchickens, they are often shocked. These animals have been bred to grow so unnaturally fast that suffering is built into the system. This is normal industry practice, and that is the real problem", says Benny Andersson, CEO of Project 1882.

As a direct result of the investigation, Finland’s Green Party has become the first political party in the country to publicly address the issue. In a statement published on social media, the party voiced support for ending the use of Frankenchickens.

"This demonstrates the power of exposing the reality of factory farming. Animal welfare is moving onto the political agenda in Finland, and we hope this is the beginning", says Benny Andersson.

Project 1882 calls for:

• A ban on and phase-out of Frankenchickens in the EU
• Both industry stakeholders and policymakers to take responsibility for the transition
• Stronger animal protection legislation, through political action
