A new EU-wide survey shows that 81% of Swedes want the EU to be cage-free by 2035. Only 4% of Swedes would accept the cage lobby’s plan to keep hens in cages until 2045. Project 1882 is working alongside animal welfare organisations across Europe to secure a ban on cages in the EU.

Public support grows for cage-free farming in Ukraine, survey finds
A public opinion survey conducted on 25th February 2026 demonstrates growing public support among Ukrainians for transitioning away from cruel, outdated cage systems for egg-laying hens. The research, commissioned with the support of Project 1882 Ukraine and carried out by Active Group, shows that Ukrainians are increasingly aware of and support a cage-free future.
Project 1882 and 280 researchers, experts, and organizations call for a cage ban
An open international letter calls on the European Commission to propose a cage ban in 2026. Among those who have signed the letter are Project 1882 and animal welfare experts and researchers in Sweden.

- Informing the public about the situation of animals and how eggs are produced.
- Conducting extensive work for the last 20 years aimed at corporations to eliminate caged eggs, both in Sweden and worldwide. This work is strategically carried out through the Open Wing Alliance coalition.
- Putting pressure on politicians and authorities to change laws that affect hens, such as through the citizens' initiative End the Cage Age.
- Operating the inspirational website “Välj Vego” (Choose Veg), which aims to make it easier for people to choose alternatives to eggs.
