Global work
Project 1882 works globally to make a difference for the animals that are the most exploited and suffer the worst. We strive for a world where animals are respected as sentient beings with the right to their own lives. As the suffering the animals are subjected to is not hindered by national borders, we work both locally and globally to make the biggest possible difference for the animals.
Although Project 1882 has its member base in Sweden, much of the overall work takes place internationally. Project 1882 is active in several different countries and has numerous international collaborations in order to effectively influence legislation, corporate policies and international trade agreements, among other things.
Project 1882's collaborations
Collaborations increase the possibilities for organizations, campaigns and projects in various countries to achieve their objectives. There are several informal collaborations between Project 1882 and organizations around the world. Below is a list of some of Project 1882's most important and formal collaborations.
Eurogroup for Animals
Eurogroup for Animals is an umbrella organization with more than 100 member organizations working within the EU. The focus is to influence politicians within the EU to improve animal welfare legislation. A great deal of the Swedish animal welfare legislation is based on directives and regulations from the EU.
Open Wing Alliance
Open Wing Alliance is a global coalition consisting of approximately 90 organizations that are working as a unit towards ending the abuse of chickens worldwide. Together, the coalition has achieved more than 3,400 corporates pledging to ditch cage eggs or take more responsibility for chickens through the European Chicken Commitment.
Fur Free Alliance
Fur Free Alliance is a network of organizations working to stop the cruelty the fur industry inflicts on animals. The joint Fur Free Retailer Program aims to provide consumers with information on which fashion companies have actively taken a stand for animals and do not sell or market fur products.
World Federation for Animals
World Federation for Animals was founded in 2021 by Project 1882 and 17 other animal rights and animal welfare organizations. The purpose has been to gather organizations worldwide to focus on political issues that are affecting animals globally. The work includes influencing the FAO and other UN bodies, where a stated objective is for animal welfare to be included as one of the global sustainability goals.
Aquatic Animal Alliance
Aquatic Animal Alliance is a coalition of organizations working to ensure that fish and other aquatic animals live their lives free from suffering. Fish are by far the most exploited animals and the ones who suffer the worst. There is still an increase of fish factories being established around the world, and Project 1882 is working tirelessly to improve the lives of these individuals.

Project 1882 in Finland
More than 80 million chickens are raised and slaughtered in Finland every year. The vast majority are turbochickens that have been bred to reach slaughter weight after only a few weeks. Project 1882 works to improve the lives of chickens in Finland and to speed up the transition to a food system that does not rely on the exploitation of animals.
Project 1882 in Ukraine
In Ukraine, animal rights issues have been a low priority for a long time, even before the war started. Since 2023, Project 1882 has been active in the country, aiming to work on both short-term efforts, such as providing disaster relief and support to Ukrainian volunteer groups helping animals directly affected by the war, and long-term initiatives to make a real difference for the animals that are the most exploited and suffer the worst.

This World Egg Day, Project 1882 is shifting the focus from eggs to the hens who produce them, highlighting the stark differences in how international food companies treat animals in Ukraine and calling on Auchan to stop tolerating cages.
Public support grows for cage-free farming in Ukraine, survey finds
A public opinion survey conducted on 25th February 2026 demonstrates growing public support among Ukrainians for transitioning away from cruel, outdated cage systems for egg-laying hens. The research, commissioned with the support of Project 1882 Ukraine and carried out by Active Group, shows that Ukrainians are increasingly aware of and support a cage-free future.
McDonald’s Ukraine announces cage-free commitment
A major step forward for hens in Ukraine: McDonald’s Ukraine has announced that it is now 100% cage-free following discussions with Project 1882. The commitment means that all eggs used across McDonald’s more than 120 restaurants in Ukraine now come from cage-free systems instead of hens confined in cages. It is a significant milestone in a country where around 98% of the egg-laying hens are still kept in cages.
Strong international support for a ban on hen cages in Ukraine
In a letter signed by Project 1882 and twelve other European animal organisations, Ukraine is urged to introduce a ban on keeping hens in cages.
